Baltimore Ravens Coach Reveals Offensive Strategy With Derrick Henry
Andrew Nelles / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Baltimore Ravens signed running back Derrick Henry to bolster their offense this offseason, and head coach John Harbaugh is already envisioning how Henry will be utilized.

During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Harbaugh says that Henry should fit right in with reigning MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson in the Ravens’ rushing attack.

“It’s going to be what we do. It’s going to be Derrick Henry doing it within the structure of what we’ve built around Lamar,” Harbaugh said. “… I think what it’s going look like is what it looked like in Tennessee – him running for a lot of yards.”

Henry is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he rushed for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging 4.2 yards per carry en route to his fourth Pro Bowl appearance.

The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was originally selected by the Tennessee Titans in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Henry was a bit of a late bloomer.

His first two NFL seasons were rather uneventful, but he finally broke through in 2018, registering 1,059 yards and 12 scores.

Then, Henry led the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in back-to-back years in 2019 and 2020, topping out at 2,027 yards and 17 scores in the latter campaign. He logged over five yards per attempt both seasons.

After missing half of 2021 with injuries, Henry racked up 1,538 yards while reaching the end zone 13 times on the ground, posting 4.4 yards per tote.

Derrick Henry is hardly the same elite rusher he was several years ago, but he could still represent an integral part of a Baltimore offense that was clearly in dire need of another weapon.
