NFL Analyst Reveals Why Bo Nix Should Star For Denver Broncos
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos selected University of Oregon star Bo Nix with the 12th overall pick of the NFL Draft late last month, making Nix the sixth and final quarterback chosen in the first round.

Many feel that the Broncos reached for Nix at No. 12, as some had him pegged as a late first-rounder or even an early second-round pick.

However, John Kosko of Pro Football Focus thinks that Nix is walking into a fine situation in Denver and that he should have a good career.

“Nix should be the day-one starter for the Broncos in 2024,” Kosko wrote. “While drafting a quarterback early is often a tell-tale sign of that, sometimes the roster doesn’t need it (looking at you, Atlanta). Nix, on the other hand, walks into a quarterback room with very little competition for the starting job.”

That’s for sure.

The Broncos released Russell Wilson earlier this offseason, leaving Jarrett Stidham as the top quarterback on the roster. They also swung a trade with the New York Jets for Zach Wilson, but Wilson certainly isn’t going to start over Nix.

Nix won’t really face any competition in camp, meaning he can comfortably play his role without pressure. At least early on.

“Nix will endure his struggles as any rookie does, but if Denver can protect him, he has quality receiving options to distribute the ball to and can develop into a reliable NFL starting quarterback,” added Kosko.

The 24-year-old is coming off of a fantastic 2023 campaign in which he threw for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 77.4 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 234 yards and six scores.

Nix began his collegiate career at Auburn and spent three years there before transferring to Oregon in 2022.

The Broncos have been in dire need of a franchise quarterback ever since Peyton Manning retired. We’ll see if Bo Nix ends up being the guy in the Mile High City.
